BACIGALUPI FAMILY VINEYARD
The Bacigalupi family name gained recognition during the 1976 Paris Tasting, where the 1973 Napa Valley Chardonnay from Château Montelena, which included 40% Bacigalupi fruit, triumphed over acclaimed French wines. This historic event became a turning point in shaping America's global wine reputation.
In 1956, Charles and Helen Bacigalupi purchased a 121-acre property on Westside Road, located a few miles south of Healdsburg. Initially caring for the existing 16 acres of vineyards, Charles recognized the growing demand for premium wine grapes. Encouraged by Paul Heck of Korbel winery, Charles decided to plant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. In 1964, he began planting six acres of each varietal, obtaining Pinot Noir bud wood from Karl Wente. These plantings marked the first documented Pinot Noir vines in the Russian River Valley, sourced from the Wente family's old vineyard in Livermore, which had its origins in France.
Today, the vineyards encompass 125 acres of premium grapes, meticulously planted and managed by John Bacigalupi and his family for the past three decades.
