SOBERANES VINEYARD
Soberanes Vineyard, in the heart of Santa Lucia Highlands, is located 20 miles southeast of Monterey Bay. The name Soberanes originated from Jose Maria Soberanes, a member of the Spanish colonial military who came to California in 1769. The vineyard is currently owned by direct descendants, who acquired 8900 acres from the Governor of California.
Adjacent to the renowned Garys' Vineyard, it covers 38 acres of premium wine grapes. Divided into three parcels by a dry creek, the vineyard features an eastward-facing alluvial terrace that gently slopes towards the valley floor. The upper section is adorned with oak trees, the middle portion is connected to Garys', and the lower block consists of a rocky rolling hill. Situated in well-draining Arroyo Seco Sandy Loam soil, the vineyard benefits from 10-13 inches of annual rainfall. The rows are oriented to true north, ensuring consistent sun exposure.
The morning fog and cool winds from Monterey Bay create an ideal environment for the vines, extending the growing season.
